Vodka - Korpiklaani

Vodka by the Finnish band Korpiklaani, was the very first Folk infused metal song that I listened to; and also promptly eased me into Metal as a whole. At the time the song came out in 2009, I was mainly listening to Folk and Bluegrass music and I wanted to add a new genre to my listening sessions. Continuing on, Vodka has a very quick and fast paced rhythm that is assisted by a fiddle and intense drumming. The song dives into themes of drinking and its effects. Personally, I enjoy the lyrics where the word Vodka is said before the following three: "You're feeling good, you're feeling stronger, your eyes are shining, you are the real man." I neglected to mention that an accordion is used in the background of the song; something that I haven't really heard in songs outside Pirate metal. Overall the song flows very well, it's consistent, and tells an interesting story regarding how alcohol can boost one's confidence. 10/10 for sure.

An Introduction

I decided to create this blog in order to express my passion and love for the genres of Folk, Viking, and Pirate Metal. I feel as though this collective of sub-genres isn't widely accepted amongst the Metal community and some of those who are large voices in content related to Metal. Regardless of that, I hope to update this blog at least weekly with a review of individual songs, albums, and some other things like new releases and concerts that are coming up.

All the best,
